Trip to Colorado

The week of July 4th we took a trip to Colorado. We look forward to this trip every year. We visited family in Ft. Collins for about a day and then went to Rocky Mountain National Park. The first day we were at the park, we picked a hike we thought would be the perfect start to our week. After walking for 3 hours we decided we might be pushing the boys a little much for the first hike of the year. What we thought was a 2 mile hike was actually 4 1/2 miles (up a mountain) one way. When it was all over we were so glad it turned out the way it did. We were able to watch the boys encourage each other and work well as a team accomplishing something together. They also finished wanting to do another hike. We like to think of this as a great character building opportunity, even if they happen by accident.
The rest of the week we went on a few other hikes, played pine cone baseball, played in bolder/stick forts near our cabin, we saw a bear right outside our cabin, ate dinner with Grandma and Grandpa and the boys became Jr. Rangers. They each had a workbook to work through and then we took it to a Park Ranger. They had a small ceremony and the boys were presented with badges.

The character building experience.

Pine cone baseball: pine cones for balls, stick for bat and trees for bases.

Bolder/stick forts.
