Pinewood Derby and Soccer

To say I am really excited to be off of overtime would be a huge understatement. The fact that spring is here and things are really starting to hop makes it even more so. Henry, Jack and I have been working on Pinewood Derby cars. We have spent time working on them with my Friend Jeff in his really cool shop and with my dad. Today was the day for the boy's club Pinewood Derby race at our church. Henry and Jack had a great time and all their hard work paid off. Although they didn't win, they both ended up losing to the the 2nd place car, their cars ran really well. Their favorite time is after the races are over getting to run grudge matches. Henry's car ended up being faster, but Jack was okay with that and Eli was proud of both of them. Boy's club is always fun, and the Pinewood Derby is always a big hit.
We have also been busy the last few weeks with spring soccer. This is new territory for us in many ways. Jack has shown lots of interest and self motivation when it comes to soccer, so he is our guinea pig. We have decided to try playing club ball with EFC (Evolution Futbol Club) and it has been great. The academy director is a friend of mine from church. Jack is learning so much and the ear to ear grin the entire time makes all the trips across town worthwhile. He had his first game last weekend and a tournament this weekend with three games. The focus of the club is on learning foot skills, so if you use one of the solutions they teach you in practice in a game you get a soccer ball patch to sew on your shorts. This is right up Jack's alley, he loves stickers and patches are even better. Jack earned three patches this weekend, so he was pretty fired up. It started a little hard though. His coach was encouraging him to try a solution and when he did a boy from the other team took the ball and scored. Jack was in tears, but continued to play. His coach encouraged him to try again, this time he was successful and went from tears to an ear to ear grin when his coach started cheering. He is learning more than soccer and we couldn't be prouder.
Notice the two patches on his shorts. Melanie couldn't get them sewn on fast enough. We are a little sunburned, wind blown and tired, but it was a great weekend.

Brent.
