Adoption Update 2yrs

I really thought we would have the rest of our family home by now.  We have been praying that they would come home this year, but that's not going to happen.  When we started this process we were told to expect a 18 month wait, but there are no guarantees and things change.  Our agency sent out our weekly update and informed us that the wait time is now estimated at 4 years.  This was very disappointing, but not a surprise.  I had been doing the math myself, but just didn't want to admit that it could be that long.

We get asked quite often if and when we will decide not to adopt.  We believe that God has asked us to adopt siblings from Ethiopia and our yes is on the table.  We did believe it would have happened by now, but the fact that it didn't doesn't change our answer.  If it had happened 6 months ago or in two years, it really doesn't matter.  A couple years here or there over our life time doesn't really make much difference.  That is the facts and on good days we can live with that, but not all days are good.  Some days, we question if we heard God correctly, even though he has answered prayer after prayer.  We have days when it feels like we can't raise the three boys we have, how can we possibly think we can raise two more children.  That's when we need God even more than usual and are thankful for the prayers of family and friends.

  1. We are so proud of how you guys are trusting in the wait. We can't wait to get to walk the rest of this journey with you, but we will wait in faith with you until then.

  2. You guys have a great perspective. We originally thought about 12-18 mo start to finish with one country, and then finally 3 1/2-4 yrs later we brought home our boy from another country. With some other twists and turns in the middle. I can totally relate to the hard feelings of wondering what God is up to, did you hear right, etc from our 2007-2011 journey and now our second one with so many delays getting the girls home. God was good to give us so many confirmations along the way all those years though. He had a long winding road full of twists and turns, when in the beginning we thought being called to adopt from our first country would lead to adopting from that country, and when for our 2nd adoption it looked like it'd be relatively quick and painless. We also can echo the feeling of 3 being a lot to handle and how will we do 5? :)
